Buying a CB radio.?
Can someone give me an idea of what CB radio is a good unit by. I saw a unit of Midland 40 channels for £ 50. To be honest, I do not need all the bells and whistles just a good basic unit will do. Price is important because it is constantly changed from vehicle to vehicle on a daily basis. I Ariel, microphone, cable and SWR meter. Its been a long time since I had my last radio. HELP!
Your best bet would be 25 Cobra. It is relatively inexpensive, small, still Full Power, and unity is a time tested and proven. When you get a new radio, be sure to shop for a competent and CB peaked and tuned, the FCC allows only 4 watts out of the box. Get Super-tune this down your power button died at about 1 or 2 watts, but when you speak, it runs at full power. This will give the necessary dead-keys for a linear modulator, or if you want to run more later, and it will keep you from sounding flat. While there, give them your antenna / coaxial cable installation on your vehicle. This should be done on each vehicle you intend to turn the radio on, each different configuration gives a ratio of SWR different. I suggest to put in each vehicle, it's own configuration, power cord, bracket, antenna and coaxial cable. The antenna / coaxial cable will be granted on the vehicle, and all you have to do is move the radio itself.
