Icom Handheld
What is a good handheld transceiver for aviation?

I have heard of Icom which I feel is like the McDonalds of transceivers. Are there any other good companies you would recommend? Decently priced, reliable, easy to use.

Icoms are good radios, they are the leader in some commercial radio and certainly in Amateur Radio. They might be McDonalds but you can get them fixed! They even have TSO panel mount units now.

The other good handheld is the Yaesu / Vertex Standard line. http://www.vertexstandard.com/?cmd=DivisionHome&DivisionID=2 Also a major two way company with over 40 years of experience.

The OTHER handhelds you find will be hard to find replacement batteries and other parts. Icom and Yaesu are easy to find accessories, like batteries, chargers, headset interfaces, etc.
