Is it possible to change the antenna on my portable radio?
Hello all, I have a question, I have a portable radio (shown linked below) that receives Airband, I wondered if I could use a replacement antenna (as in buy one) and would then be able to have a largest number of transmissions that I am able to receive. For example I live in Greece in Athens, but I live near the airport to receive transmission tower, so I wonder whether changing the antenna will be capable of receiving radio transmissions from a distance. http://gre.hk/japan/GRECOM/PSR282 / PSR-282.jpg link my radio show, if possible you have suggestions on the antenna or any other site that I could buy them from. There are tons of "Scanner" antennas. Yes a pole mounted outdoor antenna will indeed increase the reception range of your scanner. You will need a mast (pole) and an antenna. Plus it is placed as the surface that you can cover. VHF signals used by aircraft are essentially 'the line of sight "signals no longer the antenna can" see "the more it will! Add – found or simply search http://www.houseofradio.gr/ for "Ham Radio Stores" in your area. You can also "make your own" for VHF antennas are not difficult to construct. The ARRL has a great book called the Book of antenna that is excellent for DIY antennas. Get the antenna outside! Use coax to connect the antenna your scanner, you have good range.
