Make an CD External Drive the Default?
i am trying to use garmin mapsource to use my garmin etrex vista that is a couple years old and so is the software. the cd drive i used to install it is no longer working so i have an external cd drive. i am trying to use the mapsouce but the disk must be inserted and the computer keeps asking for it to be inserted into the non working drive and when i do i says that there is no cd in the drive. how can i fix this? i want to change the setting for the default. help please!
If your external CD drive will show up in My Computer you can probably rename the drive letter.
Right click on My Computer and select Manage
On the left side of the box that comes up, under Storage, select Disk Management
Now, on the bottom half of the screen on the right side you should have a list of all your drives (hopefully your USB drive will be in the list)
Right click on the drive and select Change Drive Letter.
Note that if your old non-working drive is still in your computer, you will have to change its drive letter first, and then you can give the USB drive its former drive letter.
