Is it safe to use a 1 1/4″ receiver bike rack for 4 bikes ?
I see bike racks for both 2″ and 1 1/4″ receivers. I have 4 bikes to transport and currently have a 2004 Ford explorer with a 1 1/4 inch receiver. Appreciate any links to accurate data on the web showing this — and any good bike racks to get.
Web search the manufacturer or perhaps the store where it was purchased. There will be a rated weight perhaps printed or stamped on the carrier which says now much weight or how many bikes it is designed to hold. Just use these limits and you should have not problems.
