How can you force XP to release a serial com port ?
I am running a piece of hardware that runs on USB Virtual com ports 1-10. My problem is other devices/software are “hogging” all the ports even though there are no other devices connected at this time. The first available port available is 15? Do you know how to release any of the first 10 ports?
XP is usually pretty good with allocating ports and hardware resources….have you checked on the hardware manufacturers website? Also, you may need to update the chipset drivers…For instance, if you are running a system with an Intel chipset, you can download the Intel INF Utility which contains all of the driver files for the chipset connections…
